Biography

Alan I. Rothenberg, Esq., stands out in the field of alternative dispute resolution because of his extremely diverse experience, making him the ideal addition to PMA’s roster of Neutrals. His direct experience in the field of alternative dispute resolution gives him a practical insight into resolving disputes that is extremely valuable in our industry.

Mr. Rothenberg has served on numerous corporate boards as well as acting as CEO for major banking and sports institutions. He has been the president and owner of professional sports teams, produced a feature film as well as a theatrical musical, was a principal in a major concert promotional firm and was an ESPN sports commentator.

Professionally, among others, Mr. Rothenberg served as the President of the State Bar of California (1989-1990), was the Founder and Chairman of the Foundation of State Bar of California (1990-1992) and was a member of the Judicial Council ADR Task Force (1998-1999).

Mr. Rothenberg is a retired partner of Latham & Watkins (1990-2000), and was a name Partner and Managing Partner at Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg & Phillips for more than 20 years (1966-2000). His diversified legal experience also includes the representation of various Hall of Fame and Olympic athletes, and being General Counsel for a major sports, entertainment and cable TV company.

Mr. Rothenberg earned his B.A. in History at the University of Michigan in 1960, his J.D. (with distinction) from the University of Michigan Law School in 1963 and attended the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law (2000 & 2010).
